There are many groups that have been set up in order to bring joy into the lives of those a little less fortunate. You can stitch quilt squares, ornaments, bookmarks, cards, pillow squares, etc. depending on the group! The most common type of group are Cross-Stitched Quilt groups which use cross-stitched squares, sewn together to create quilts for children with illnesses. Squares are generally 12x12 inches, however they can vary based on the group and project. Go to our Current Projects page to see the range of projects available right now! I want to stitch for charity! Where do I start? Fantastic! Check out our Current Projects page, as well as our Links page to find groups to stitch for. Don't forget to go to our Hints & Tips page to read some important pointers before you start! Where can I find patterns to stitch for charity? Go to our Free Patterns page to find links to patterns that you can download online for free. Some groups also provide patterns that they would like to be stitched for particular projects. You can also buy magazines, pattern books, kits and charts from shops, eBay or other online stores (see Links page).. the possibilities are endless! How about finding a bargain on our Classifieds page where you can swap, buy or sell patterns with other stitchers? I can't find a pattern for a particular theme! Help! Don't panic, why don't you go to the Forum? You can post a "Looking for.." message for other charity stitchers who may be able to help out or point you in the right direction. There are also links to online stitching/pattern shops in our Links section which can come in handy! I have a pattern that I really want to stitch but it does not fit into any currently available theme. What do I do? Many charity stitching groups also accept "Any Child" squares. These squares generally can be of any pattern suitable for the group (eg. for children, seniors, etc.) and will be used to make up emergency projects or added to current projects that do not have enough stitchers. Each group has its own rules as to fabric types/sizes and the sort of patterns allowed so make sure you check out their sites before stitching! |
